Do Instagram views turn into followers?

Views do not turn into followers on their own. A view is a play of a video; a follow is a separate decision a person makes on your profile, after they have left the video. Nothing in Instagram converts one into the other automatically, and no service can promise a follower count from a view count.

What views do is put people in the position where that decision is possible. Somebody who never plays your reel never visits your profile, so a video with a low play count has almost no chance of producing a follower. Raising the plays widens the top of that funnel; the profile has to do the rest.

A follower is one account that has chosen to subscribe to your posts. It is a person-level count, it changes slowly, and it only moves when somebody makes an active decision. That is why a reel with a hundred thousand plays can add a handful of followers, and why nobody should read a play count as an audience.

The two counts also behave differently over time. Views on a given post only ever go up. Followers go both ways, because people unfollow, accounts get deleted, and Instagram removes profiles it judges inauthentic during periodic sweeps.

Why a higher view count changes what a viewer does next

A view count is the first thing a person reads before deciding whether to watch. Two identical reels, one showing a few dozen plays and one showing several thousand, get treated very differently by the same viewer, because the number is a shortcut for whether the video is worth the next three seconds.

This matters most in the first hour after posting, when the play count is lowest and the video is being shown to the most new people. A reel sitting at a visibly small number during that window tends to stay there, because each new viewer reads the low count as a verdict from everyone before them.
