How to Block Instagram Followers (And When to Remove Instead)
To block an Instagram follower, open their profile, tap the three dots in the top right and choose Block. Blocking removes them from your followers, hides your profile from that account, and stops them finding you in search. To remove someone without blocking them, open your own profile, tap Followers, find the name and tap Remove. Instagram does not notify anyone in either case. There is no alert, no message and no entry in their activity feed. A person can work it out by noticing your posts have stopped appearing or by checking whether they can still see your profile, but Instagram itself never tells them. This page covers both actions step by step, the difference between blocking, removing, restricting and muting, what each one does to your follower count, and what to do about the spam and bot accounts that follow every growing profile. It is written by a UK service that sells Instagram followers, likes, reel views, story views, saves, shares and reposts.

How to block a follower on Instagram
Blocking is done from the other person's profile, not from your followers list. Open their profile, tap the three dots in the top right corner, and choose Block. Instagram will ask whether to block only that account or also accounts they may create in future, which is the option to take if the person is persistent.
Blocking does several things at once. It removes them as a follower, hides your posts, stories and reels from that account, stops your profile appearing in their search results, and prevents them messaging you. Old direct messages stay in both inboxes; blocking does not delete conversation history.
The block can be undone at any time from Settings, under Privacy and then Blocked accounts. Unblocking does not restore the follow: if they followed you before, they will have to follow again, and on a private account you would have to approve that request.
Put the count back after a clear-out
One hundred followers is our minimum and enough to lift a purged profile out of the double figures. Username only, priced in pounds, with a 30-day refill window.
How to remove a follower without blocking them
Removing a follower is the quieter option and it is done from your own profile. Tap your follower count to open the list, find the account, and tap Remove next to the name. They stop following you immediately and your posts stop appearing in their feed.
Removing is deliberately softer than blocking. The person can still find your profile, still see your public posts if they visit it directly, and still follow you again. If you want them gone permanently rather than quietly, blocking is the tool.
This is the right option for tidying rather than for conflict: inactive accounts, obvious spam, or people you would rather not have in the audience but do not want to shut out entirely. It is also the only one of the two that reduces your follower count without cutting off access.
Back to an ordinary small account
Five hundred followers takes a profile clearly out of the new band. Delivery starts within minutes of payment clearing and completes within 0-24 hours.
Block, remove, restrict and mute: what each one does
Instagram gives you four different tools and they solve four different problems. Choosing the wrong one is the usual reason people end up unhappy with the result, so it is worth knowing which does what before you act.
Blocking is total: they lose the follow, cannot see your profile and cannot message you. Removing is partial: they lose the follow but keep access to anything public. Restricting is invisible: their comments on your posts become visible only to them unless you approve them, and their messages move to your requests folder. Muting affects only your own feed and does nothing to them at all.
None of the four sends a notification. The person most likely to notice is a restricted account, because their comments quietly stop getting replies, and even then Instagram never states what happened.
- Block: removes the follow, hides your profile from them, blocks messages. Reversible.
- Remove: removes the follow only. They can still view a public profile and follow again.
- Restrict: keeps the follow but hides their comments from everyone else and filters their messages.
- Mute: hides their posts from your own feed. Changes nothing on their side.
- None of the four notifies the other person.
Past the first thousand again
The first thousand is where a profile stops reading as new to strangers. This clears it with headroom, delivered gradually rather than in one block.
Does blocking or removing lower my follower count?
Yes. Both blocking and removing take that account off your followers list, so the number on your profile drops by one for each person you act on. There is no way to end a follow without the count reflecting it.
That is usually a good trade rather than a loss. Engagement rate is the reaction each post gets divided by the follower count, so removing accounts that never look at your posts raises the figure that brands and clients actually check. A smaller, active audience reads better than a larger dormant one.
The exception is if you are close to a threshold you care about for your own reasons. There is no feature in Instagram that unlocks at a particular follower number, so the only real cost is how the profile looks to a visitor, and that only matters below the low hundreds.
For accounts that post consistently
Five thousand followers only holds together when engagement keeps pace with the count, so this suits an account already posting weekly. Paid in pounds through PayPal.
What to do about spam and bot followers
Spam followers arrive at every account that starts to grow, and they are not a sign that you have done anything wrong. They are automated accounts scanning hashtags and Explore, and the volume rises as your posts reach further, which is why active accounts see more of them than dormant ones.
Removing them one at a time from the followers list works and is tedious. Instagram does not offer a bulk removal tool, and third-party apps that promise one usually want your login, which hands over your account for a job you can do yourself. That trade is never worth it.
Instagram also removes inauthentic accounts on its own schedule, which is why every account sees occasional unexplained drops in its follower count. That housekeeping is normal, applies to accounts of every size, and is not something a user can switch off.
Rebuilding the count after a clear-out
A clear-out can leave the profile looking thinner than it did, and that matters more than people expect. Visitors read the follower number before the bio, and an account in the double figures reads as new or abandoned however good the posts are, so a heavy purge on a small account can cost you follows from strangers who liked a reel.
The honest fix is more posting, which takes months. The paid fix is an order that puts the count back into a band where the profile does not undermine itself. That is what this service sells: InstaBoost is a UK service, priced in pounds, paid through PayPal, with no account to create and no password ever requested.
Be clear about what an order does not do. Bought followers do not watch your reels, do not comment and do not improve reach. They change the number a visitor reads before judging the account. The minimum followers order is 100, delivery starts within minutes and completes within 0-24 hours, the account must be public while it runs, and every order carries a 30-day refill window.
Questions people ask before ordering
How do I block a follower on Instagram?
Open the person's profile, tap the three dots in the top right and choose Block. Instagram asks whether to block that account alone or also accounts they may create later. Blocking removes the follow, hides your profile from them and stops them messaging you.
How do I remove a follower without blocking them?
Open your own profile, tap your follower count to see the list, find the account and tap Remove next to the name. They stop following you straight away, but they can still view a public profile and follow again if they choose.
Does Instagram notify someone when you block or remove them?
No. Instagram sends no notification for blocking, removing, restricting or muting. A person can work it out by noticing your posts have stopped appearing or that they can no longer find your profile, but the app itself never tells them.
What is the difference between blocking and restricting?
Blocking is total and visible if they look: they lose the follow, cannot see your profile and cannot message you. Restricting keeps the follow but hides their comments from everyone except themselves and moves their messages to your requests folder, which is designed to defuse a situation quietly.
Does blocking someone lower my follower count?
Yes. Blocking and removing both take that account off your followers list, so the number drops by one each time. That usually helps rather than hurts, because removing accounts that never engage raises your engagement rate, which is what brands actually check.
Can I remove all my Instagram followers at once?
No. Instagram has no bulk removal tool, so followers have to be removed one at a time from your followers list. Third-party apps offering bulk removal generally want your Instagram login, which hands over control of your account for a task you can do yourself.
Why do spam accounts keep following me?
Automated accounts scan hashtags and Explore for active profiles, so the volume rises as your posts reach further. It is a side effect of growth rather than a sign of a problem. Instagram also removes inauthentic accounts on its own schedule, which explains occasional unexplained drops.
If I unblock someone, do they follow me again automatically?
No. Unblocking restores their ability to find and view your profile, but the follow is gone for good. They would have to follow you again, and on a private account you would need to approve that request.
